Facilities & Administrative Long Form Workshop

MAXIMUS provides a workshop that focuses on an introduction to OMB Circular A-21 and facilities and administrative cost rate development using the long-form methodology. The next Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Long Form Workshop will be held in Spring 2012. The workshop takes place in Northbrook, Illinois and will last two and a half days. The cost is $800 per participant. Each participant will receive 16 CPE credits.

This workshop will provide an overview and introduction to the requirements under OMB Circular A-21 (2 CFR Part 220) for preparing the long-form F&A cost rate proposal. Our workshop instructors will include MAXIMUS senior staff and university faculty.  They will discuss treatment of unallowable costs, cost pool development and allocation, assignment of cost to direct bases, and the cost accounting standards. The standard proposal requirements and a sample standard proposal submittal prepared using the Comprehensive Rate Information System (CRIS) will also be reviewed. In addition, there will be a discussion of the negotiation process, strategy, and current negotiation issues. This course will assist cost accountants, cost analysis managers, administrators for research and sponsored projects, controllers, budget directors, and internal and external auditors gain a working knowledge and better understanding of the F&A rate development process.

CRIS University: Introduction to CRIS

The Higher Education Practice plans to conduct the CRIS University: Introduction to CRIS workshop in the Spring 2012.  This workshop lasts three days and runs from Monday noon to Thursday noon. The cost is $3,800 per participant. Managers in the Higher Education Practice of MAXIMUS, will be the lead instructors.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview and introduction to the CRIS software for university professionals who will have hands-on involvement in preparing the Facilities and Administrative Rate Proposal. The workshop assumes that these individuals do not have significant experience with CRIS. However, attendees may have experience but need a refresher course if they have not used the software for several years. Please note, this course will not cover basic PC skills or basic F&A Rate skills. Each participant will receive 16 CPE credits.

In this workshop, participants will prepare an F&A model under the direction of MAXIMUS staff. The participants will be given the basic files that are needed to start a model, including the organizational structure of the sample university, and, the wisdom, wit and guidance from senior MAXIMUS staff.  After the model is completed, the output will be reviewed using CRIS reports. Participants will be able to take the practice model back with them to their universities so they can apply what they have learned. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to use CRIS at a basic level.
